Researchers of all fields are welcome to join us for an afternoon workshop, presenting EU and Chinese funding schemes open to international applicants, from a practical perspective.
The event, co-organised by EURAXESS Links China, Science and Technology Talent Centre of MoST, Shanghai S&T Commission and CAS Shanghai, will provide attendees with an overview of several funding possibilities enabling mobility between China and Europe. It is open to all researchers regardless of nationality, research stage or research field.
The event will introduce two prestigious funding schemes by the European Union, the European Research Council (ERC) grants and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship. The attendees will hear engaging testimonials from two Chinese recipients who are beneficiaries of the well-known funding programmes open to all nationalities.
We will also hear introduction to Chinese schemes open to international researchers from Shanghai S&T authorities as well as practical tips about Chinese funding schemes from the researcher's perspective.
Registration starts at 1.30 pm. The event will be in English and Chinese (with simultaneous translation provided).
The event will be followed by a networking reception at the CAS Shanghai's Hope Hotel right next to the meeting venue, at 5 pm.
The workshop will also be good networking opportunity for all members of the Sino-European research community in Shanghai.

Feng Hao, University of Newcasle
Dr Feng Hao received his Master’s degree in Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He then completed his PhD at the Computer Laboratory at the Cambridge University in the UK. Awarded an ERC Starting grant of EUR 1.5 million in 2013, Dr Hao is currently based at the School of Computing Science, Newcastle University in the UK. His research interests focus on exploring the interaction between cryptographic theory and security practice.
Guojie Zhang, University of Copenhagen
Dr. Guojie Zhang has just been appointed as tenure track Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen (Center of Social Evolution), who hosted his Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship (2012-2014). As Associate Director of National Genebank at BGI-Shenzhen, he has pioneered the application of genomic technologies in evolutionary studies of ants, birds, bats, fish and other non-model organisms to reveal the animal evolution history and the molecular mechanism of adaptation.
Jerome Boyd-Kirkup, CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology
Jerome Boyd-Kirkup completed his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Imperial College London, and holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge. After finishing his PhD, Jerome took up a Postdoctoral position in the Laboratory of Jing-Dong Jackie Han. He has now been a CAS Young International Fellow at the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology for 3 years. His work has focused on Molecular Systems Biology of Aging and Disease, with a particular focus on Mitochondria. His work has been funded by grants from the National Natural Sciences Foundation China Research Fund for International Young Scientists.
Peter B. Shull, Shanghai Jiaotong University
Pete Shull is an Assistant Professor based at the Institute of Robotics at SJTU. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from University of Stanford. His research is focused on wearable sensing and haptic feedback systems for human movement training and assessment. His work has been funded by Shanghai municipality and grants from the National Natural Sciences Foundation China Research Fund for International Young Scientists.
